RLW installed a high-performance roofing system designed to provide long-term durability and reliability.

An IKO Permatec hotmelt roofing system was applied across the scheme, offering a robust and fully bonded waterproofing solution. This was complemented by stone and paving finishes, delivering both functional and aesthetic benefits to the roof areas.

As part of the package, we also installed premade upstands and a variety of pre-manufactured Nicholson M&E units, ensuring efficient integration of rooftop services while maintaining the integrity of the waterproofing system.

PPC aluminium cappings were installed to provide clean, durable edge detailing and a high-quality overall finish.

Roofing Works

RLW installed a comprehensive roofing package tailored to meet both performance and durability requirements across the site.

A Bauder Bakor hotmelt roofing system was applied, offering a long-lasting waterproofing solution. This was complemented by Bauder hybrid felt parapets, along with stone and paving finishes to enhance both functionality and aesthetics.

In addition, Bauder built-up felt roofing systems were installed across designated areas, alongside Bauder PV solar frames to support the integration of renewable energy solutions.

Cladding & Fabrication

RLW delivered a high-quality cladding package designed to enhance both the appearance and thermal performance of the building. Eurobond composite cladding was installed in conjunction with Rockpanel rainscreen cladding, incorporating fire-rated Rockwool Duo Slab insulation to meet stringent safety and performance standards.

Bespoke PPC aluminium window flashings and feature bands were also included as part of the façade design. These elements were measured on site, fabricated at our in-house P&H Fabrications, and expertly installed to ensure a precise and high-quality finish.

Beyond its primary use, the boat station will serve as a valuable community asset, offering space for local groups, schools, and charities.

Roofing Works

RLW installed a high-performance Euroseam Elite Plus standing seam metal roofing system, delivering both durability and a striking architectural finish in keeping with the building’s modern design.

To the terrace area, a Sika Sarnafil mechanically fixed single ply membrane was installed, providing a robust and weather-resistant waterproofing solution. A composite decking system was also incorporated, creating a practical and low-maintenance surface for users.

Cladding & Fabrication

P&H Fabrications fabricated and supplied a bespoke Alupan cassette cladding system, designed to complement the overall aesthetic of the building. This included integrated feature bands, aluminium fascias, and rainwater goods, all manufactured to ensure a cohesive and high-quality finish.

Working within the healthcare sector, the project demanded careful planning, high-performance roofing systems, and robust cladding solutions to ensure the hospital’s facilities remained fully operational and compliant with strict performance standards.

Roofing & Waterproofing

RLW installed a Sika single ply roofing system, incorporating Tata metal decking, tissue-faced insulation, fleece-back Sika Plan membrane, and Sika Plan Decor profiles to give the appearance of a metal standing seam roof. Plant areas were completed using Sika Shield hotmelt roofing, providing durable, long-term protection for service equipment.

A key element of the project was the value engineering approach RLW adopted. Working closely with Kier Construction and other stakeholders, we refined designs and materials to meet requirements without compromising quality or performance.

Cladding & Architectural Metalwork

Cladding works included PPC Alupan rainscreen cladding, incorporating the Nvelope Helping Hand system and FSI fire barriers, with integrated FSI fire protection to ensure full compliance with fire performance standards.

To achieve a cohesive architectural finish, RLW also designed and installed a bespoke cladding system specifically developed to complement and visually align with the single ply standing seam aesthetic. This ensured continuity across roof and façade elements, delivering a seamless, high-quality appearance.

Bespoke aluminium cappings, rainwater goods, and bull nose details were fabricated in-house and installed to deliver a precise, consistent, and low-maintenance finish across the facility.

RLW installed a Bauder Bakor hotmelt waterproofing system with a bio-solar finish, chosen for its durability, environmental performance, and long design life. The system provides robust protection while supporting the sustainability goals of the project.

The roofing package also included Bauder Rock insulated parapets, PPC aluminium cappings, and PPC aluminium rainwater goods, all detailed to deliver a consistent, low-maintenance finish. Gemello insulated built-up north lights were incorporated to provide controlled natural daylight and improved thermal performance to internal spaces.

Cladding Works

Cladding formed a key part of the project scope. RLW installed Euroband cladding in the plantroom area, alongside an Equitone rainscreen system for the main elevations. Rockpanel soffit plank cladding was also used, contributing to a modern finish across the building.

The project sees the conversion of an industrial building into a state-of-the-art production facility that will host the internationally recognised TV format MasterChef. As the first phase of a 20-acre masterplan, the development will contribute to the delivery of over 900 new homes and support approximately 750 local jobs, acting as a catalyst for continued investment in the area.

Roofing Works

RLW installed a Euroclad Vieo built-up acoustic roof system, carefully selected to meet the stringent acoustic performance requirements of a live television production environment. As part of our value engineering approach, the roofing specification was refined from an initial zinc proposal to the Vieo Euroclad system, delivering both cost efficiencies and enhanced performance outcomes.

In addition, a Sika single ply roofing system was installed to deliver a durable, high-performance waterproofing solution.

A key aspect of the project involved the refurbishment and retention of the existing canopy. Working within the constraints of a historic structure required a measured and coordinated approach to preserve the building’s character, while integrating modern roofing systems to meet current performance standards.

Through careful planning and collaboration, RLW delivered a project that supports both the technical requirements of the facility and the regeneration ambitions of the wider scheme.

The roofing works included the installation of IKO Permatec roofing alongside hotmelt waterproofing systems with bio-solar finishes. These systems were selected for their durability, long-term performance and environmental benefits, supporting the academy’s sustainability objectives while providing robust weather protection.

Cladding works formed a significant part of the project scope. RLW installed single-skin cladding to parapet upstands and a Prefa standing seam cladding system, incorporating fire barriers, mineral wool insulation and the Nvelope Helping Hand support system. A key aspect of the cladding installation was that all cladding panels were manufactured on site. This approach significantly reduced transport requirements, helping to minimise associated costs and emissions, while also reducing material waste.

On-site manufacturing allowed RLW to achieve a high level of precision in panel widths and seam placement, ensuring accurate alignment with the bespoke window pods incorporated into the building design. This level of control contributed to a clean appearance across the elevations.

Additional architectural metalwork included PPC aluminium cappings and PPC aluminium rainwater goods, all detailed and installed to provide a consistent, low-maintenance finish. P&H (RLW’s in-house fabricators) also designed and made a bespoke galvanised staircase to be installed by RLW.

The roofing package included the installation of Bauder Bakor hotmelt waterproofing alongside Sika single-ply roofing systems, selected for their durability, long-term performance and suitability for a busy education environment.

As part of the project delivery, RLW undertook value engineering to develop a more cost-effective solution, proposing a Euroclad full-fill Vieo system. This approach reduced overall project costs while maintaining performance, compliance and the architectural intent of the design. Cladding works formed a key element of the project and included the installation of Vieo standing seam cladding and cladding to the north lights, providing a clean and contemporary appearance.

External cladding elevations were completed using a fully compliant system incorporating mineral wool insulation, fire barriers and the Rocbar support system, ensuring both thermal performance and adherence to current fire safety requirements.

RLW also delivered a range of bespoke architectural metalwork elements, including bespoke aluminium soffits and fascias and perforated brise soleil cladding, in collaboration with in-house fabricators P&H. PPC aluminium cappings were installed throughout to provide durable, low-maintenance detailing and a consistent finish across the building envelope.

The project was successfully delivered through detailed planning, and a strong focus on quality and compliance. The completed works provide the learning centre with a robust, visually cohesive external envelope.

The main roofing system installed was Bauder Bio-Solar Bakor hotmelt, chosen for its durability and environmental performance. In additional roof areas, Bauder Total Felt roofing was used as a reliable and cost-effective alternative.

A standout feature of the project was the PPC aluminium hit-and-miss cladding, which was used extensively across the elevations. The hit-and-miss design added depth and interest to the façade while also providing screening where required.

This system required careful setting out to ensure consistent spacing and alignment across the building. Achieving a neat, uniform appearance was particularly important where the cladding met windows, doors, and corner details. RLW worked through these challenges by agreeing clear setting-out lines early on and coordinating closely with other trades to avoid clashes and rework.

Alongside the aluminium systems, RLW installed Equitone fibre cement panels in both Linea and Natura finishes. Equitone Linea was used to introduce horizontal definition to the façade, while Equitone Natura provided a smooth finish. Both systems were detailed to sit neatly alongside the aluminium cladding, ensuring a cohesive overall appearance. Additional cladding included PPC aluminium panels and Eurobond composite wall cladding, giving further variation while maintaining durability and low maintenance.

The project was delivered through good planning, attention to detail, and close collaboration with BAM Construction. The finished buildings meet the practical needs of a busy school environment while delivering a modern, well-considered external appearance.

The system was finished with a combination of paving and gravel finishes, creating both functional roof areas and protected zones while ensuring effective drainage and maintenance access.

To complete the roof build-up, Europanel insulated parapet systems were installed to achieve thermal continuity and compliance with current building regulations. These were finished with PPC aluminium cappings, delivering a clean, durable edge detail with long-term performance and minimal maintenance requirements.

In addition to the primary roofing works, RLW coordinated the supply and installation of several bespoke elements fabricated in-house by P&H Fabrications. These included custom-made iroko timber benches and corten steel planters, which enhanced the usability and visual appeal of the external spaces while complementing the overall architectural design.
